Tech support, please!

As I may have mentioned, I have been able to get high speed internet at my new home in Brownwood. As such, I no longer have to dial into AOL to use the internet.

When I surf the Web using Internet Explorer 6, many of the pictures on various Web sites (including my, and possibly your blogs) are not showing up. They do show up when I use AOL. Can anyone explain this?

It's because AOL stands for Anti-Christ OnLine...

Okay, so I just don't like AOL!!!

What version of windows and AOL are you using?

Oh, also, the Internet Explorer version is out of date. You can get IE7 or even the IE8-Beta 1 version. That should solve your problems.

AOL 9.0.

I'll try IE 7.

IE 7 successfully installed, still no pictures are showing up on my blog. Any other suggestions?

Hey Leland - Website pictures show as red X's? There are a number of things that can affect how pictures show up in your browser. Some you control, but many problems are also caused by the websites themselves. There are a few things that can happen.
If you get a red x that's the browser's indication that it tried to download a picture but was unable to. If instead you get the small sheet of paper with three colored shapes on it with one corner folded - that's what the browser uses to indicate that it's still downloading the picture, but hasn't gotten around to trying (because it's busy download other items on the page) or at least hasn't yet given up. Be patient, and you'll soon either see the image or the red x. If all you get is red X's for all pictures on all sites, most browsers allow you to turn off downloading pictures completely as a way to download only the text of a website faster. The first step would be to check to make sure that's configured properly. In Internet Explorer, that's in Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and then in the Multimedia section of the list, there's an item Show Pictures. If that's set properly to show pictures, then you might check to see if you have any ad-blocking or content filtering software installed, check also the setting in any virus software that you have. Sometimes they can erroneously start blocking everything that isn't text.
That would be my first advice, summed up. Hope it helps.

I checked the multimedia section. Every box is checked. As of right now, your picture is showing up, but mine is the red x.
